Fit For A Cause History

Photo by Steve Pickel – Pickel’s Photography

In February 2008 the FFC idea was hatched in a conversation between Kieran & Sherri Murry and Mike Petrovic, owner of Callaway Fitness.

In March FFC1 was launched with 30 contestants divided into 3 teams of 10. In 12 short weeks they lost 793 lbs with Karie Franks being crowned the winner on June 19th at the FFC Grand Finale at Experience Church. (Watch the finale)

The Twist
In addition to losing hundreds of pounds we challenged our contestants to make a difference in the community we live in. Each contestant chose a charity of their choice and proceeded to collect pledge donations from friends and family for their own personal weight loss. The winning team was not the one who lost the most weight…although that was a factor. Instead, the winning team were those that raised the most money for their individual charities. At our finale we discovered the final tally. Our contestants had raised nearly $19,000.00!

The Legacy Continues
With FFC1 counted as a huge success story we immediately set out to launch Fit For A Cause II. In addition to our regular red, blue and black teams we have added a 4th team…pink. Our pink team is made up of FFC1 Alumni that are set to challenge the newcomers.

Also new to FFC2 is the addition of our 27 corporate sponsors that you see to the left. We are humbled that our sponsors have fully embraced our vision of making a difference in Pierce County. We encourage you to fully support our sponsors by making a committed decision to do business with each of them whenever possible.

Our fundraising efforts during FFC2 will be laser focused to three causes:

· The Emergency Food Network - The Emergency Food Network (EFN) has been working since 1982 "to provide a reliable food supply so that no person in Pierce County goes hungry." Each month in Pierce County, more than 130,000 people seek emergency food assistance. EFN provides food and other essentials at no cost to over 70 food banks, hot meal sites and shelters for distribution to low-income families and individuals.

· Kidstown International - The mission of Kidstown International is to help abandoned children living in indigenously-operated Christian orphanages in developing countries so that they may be alleviated of their suffering, have hope for the future, and become productive adults who love the Lord and who will contribute positively to their society.

· The Daffodil Festival - This year marked the 75th anniversary of a Pierce County tradition. The Daffodil Festival makes a huge impact in our community with its annual Daffodil Parade and the Royalty Program for youth in our area. This year also marks a first for the Daffodil Festival as they have encountered financial setbacks. Our goal is for FFC2 to play a significant role in saving the Daffodil Festival and continuing the Pierce County tradition for many years to come.

We encourage you to visit this website and our FFC2 Blog often to check for updates on our contestants weight loss and for information about upcoming fundraisers. We have some very big things planned…and they wouldn’t be the same without you!
